Apple unveils iPhone 4

The newest edition of the popular iPhone was unveiled, Monday.
Apple’s chief executive, Steve Jobs, introduced the iPhone 4 at the company’s annual conference for software developers in San Francisco.
Jobs called it “the biggest leap since the original iPhone.”
The glass and stainless steel phone is 24 per cent thinner than the older iPhone 3GS.
And that is not all as Apple said the new mobile has more than 100 new features, compared to the older model.
The new screen has a higher resolution, which is similar to that of the iPad. It also has a front-facing video camera that could be used for videoconferencing. Apple beefed up the second camera to five megapixels and added an LED flash. The iPhone 4 can also shoot high-definition video and its new iMovie app can edit video right on the phone.
Battery life has also been improved to an hour extra in comparison to older models. Talk time has been increased as well to six hours, while people can browse online for up to seven hours.
Lance Ulanoff, editor-in-chief of PCmag.com called all these features a “[…] turn on for geeks.”
The new phone will run the latest version of Apple’s mobile software, now called iOS4, which Apple unveiled in April to offer such new features as the ability to operate more than one program at a time. Older iPhones will be able to get iOS4 as a download June 21.
Apple said the new iPhone would be available to Canadians by the end of July for US$199 or US$299, depending on the capacity. The company plans to launch the phone south of the border on June 24th.
