Downtown drivers will have to contend with another day of road closures Sunday for the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon.
14, 000 runners are expected to pound the pavement for this race, the second marathon that’s taking over city streets in three weeks.
The run’s full marathon begins at 9am, while the half-marathon gets underway bright and early at 8am. Both begin at North York’s Mel Lastman Square and finish up at Queen’s Park.
The 5k also starts at 8am from Queen’s Park, while the relay race begins a little later, at 9:20am from Mel Lastman Square.
This is the marathon’s final fall run. In September, city council passed a motion forcing one of the marathons to be run in the spring to ease stress on drivers.
Next year, the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon will be run in May while the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will take place in late September.
The following roads will be closed for Sunday’s race:
- Wellesley St will be closed from Queen’s Park Cres. E. to Queen’s Park Cres. W. from 6am to 5pm
- The southbound lanes of Yonge St will be closed from Ellerslie to Alymer Ave from 7:30am to 11am
- Rosedale Valley Rd and Bayview Ave will be closed from 8am to 11:30am
- University Ave will be closed from 7:30am to 4pm
- Queen’s Quay eastbound will be closed from 10am to 3pm
- Select ramps of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from 8am to 3pm
