More points needed for same flights, Aeroplan announces

Travellers accustomed to saving their points for free trips will now have to scrimp for a little bit longer: Groupe Aeroplan unveiled changes to its reward system last week and flyers now need to spend more points to fly to the same destination.

Aeoplan said the increases – which affect about five per cent of flights – are effective as of July 15 for new flight reward bookings.

However, as of April 15, Star Alliance flight reward mileage levels for certain travel zones have been reduced – meaning you’ll need fewer points to fly.

The company said it was making the changes to keep up with the increasing costs of flying.
