Blood pressure should be checked on both arms, study advises

According to British researchers, when you get your blood pressure taken, it should be on both arms and not just one.

The University of Exeter researchers said measuring blood pressure in both arms should be routine because the difference between left and right arm could indicate underlying health problems.

The researchers reviewed 28 previous studies looking at this area.

The review concluded that a difference in systolic blood pressure of 10 millimetres of mercury between arms could identify patients at high risk of asymptomatic peripheral vascular disease.

The review is published in the journal, Lancet.
