Paranormal Activity 4 led the U.S. weekend box office, followed by Argo and Hotel Transylvania, according to Box Office Mojo.
The scary movie franchise debuted at No. 1 with $30.2 million (U.S.), followed by Ben Affleck’s Argo at $16.6 million and Dracula cartoon Hotel Transylvania at $13.5 million.
The studio estimate for Paranormal suggests the scary movie franchise is losing steam since openings for the last two installments were estimated to be between $40 million and $50 million.
Alex Cross, a movie about a detective pushed to the limit as he hunts for a psychopath played by Matthew Fox, opened with a disappointing fifth place finish at $11.7 million.
Taken 2, starring Liam Neeson who reprises his role as CIA operative Bryan Mills, rounded out the top five in fourth place with $13.4 million.
