Casa Loma’s future to be discussed Monday

The future of Casa Loma —one of the city’s most-prominent and beloved landmarks — will be discussed at a public meeting Monday evening.

The meeting to discuss the “long-term viability” of the 98-room Edwardian mansion is scheduled to run from 7 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at the castle, located 1 Austin Terrace (just north of Spadina and Davenport).

Representatives of the Casa Loma Corporation Board as well as councillors Joe Mihevc and Josh Matlow will be in attendance to hear comments and questions from residents and local history buffs.

In October, Toronto’s executive committee and city council nixed suggestions to sell off the site and instead endorsed a plan to find a private-sector operator for Casa Loma that would come with a multi-year lease. They also approved Matlow’s proposal that any new plan incorporates space for a new museum.

For those not intimately familiar with Casa Loma, there will be guided tours of the landmark beginning at 5:30 p.m. and running until the meeting starts.
