Police at Orillia RIDE check find large quantity of marijuana

Just because they are looking for impaired drivers, it doesn’t mean police at RIDE spot checks will not arrest people for other infractions.

One such case happened Thursday night when Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle during a ride check near Orillia.

The officer detected a strong smell of marijuana in the vehicle as he was speaking to the driver. A search was conducted and nearly 250 grammes of marijuana was seized.

It’s unclear if the driver under the influence of marijuana or just in possession of it.

A 34-year-old Orillia man faces drug-related charges.
