TORONTO – One of two men shot early on Thursday morning on King Street West near Portland Street has died, Toronto police said.
Anthony Smith, 21, was shot and later died in the hospital. Another man remains in hospital and is expected to survive.
As far as suspects go, police say they don’t have a lot to go on. They are looking for a male who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
The shooting happened in Coun. Adam Vaughan’s ward. He said it’s time to take action to make clubs safer.
“We have to start to manage the public sidewalk. We need to talk about how we impose conditions on existing nightclub licences that, quite frankly, are a volatile business model that when in concentration, create real dangers in communities like this one.”
The homicide squad has taken over the investigation.
Both victims were found on the sidewalk at around 2:30 a.m.
