Thousands of Toronto residents and proud members of Ford nation attended the 13th annual Ford Fest on Friday night.
The free barbecue, sponsored by Mayor Rob Ford, Coun. Doug Ford and the Ford family, was held in Scarborough, marking the first time the event has taken place outside of the Ford home-base of Etobicoke.
“Now, we’re bringing it out to the folks out in Scarborough,” Doug Ford told Breakfast Television.
“We have such a large city and mom’s place can only hold a few thousand people in the backyard,” so the event was moved to a larger venue.
Thomson Memorial Park can accommodate about 5,000 people, but Ford’s security team says upwards of 10,000 people came out to meet and mingle with the Rob and Doug, and sink their teeth into some juicy burgers.
Ford Fest kicked off at 6 p.m. at the park near Brimley Road and Lawrence Avenue. Things wrapped up around 10 p.m.
There was plenty to eat and drink as well as live music, dancing, and amusement rides. The entire event was free.
The Fords are planning another party later in the summer in Etobicoke.
