Driver facing charges in fatal Brampton crash

Peel police have charged a 55-year-old man with criminal negligence causing death after a fatal six-vehicle crash in Brampton on Monday.

The crash left a 61-year-old man dead. His name has not been released.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which is probing the case, said a Peel police cruiser began to follow a vehicle being driven by the accused.

The driver sped past the officer, who was trying to pull him over. He then struck multiple vehicles at Clarke Boulevard and Bramalea Road before ditching the car and fleeing on foot.

The suspect was arrested a short time later in the area.

The victim, who was the driver of one of the vehicles struck in the crash, suffered critical injuries and was transported to hospital where he later died.

No other injuries have been reported.

Ronald McWatters has also been charged with failing to remain causing death, driving while disqualified and two counts of possession of stolen property.
