Monday marks first day of fall

It’s time to say goodbye to summer and welcome fall.

Autumn officially arrived Sunday afternoon at 4:44 p.m., but first Environment Canada looks back on summer 2013.

“Temperature wise, it was very close to normal; we had in total of about 13 days where the temperature got above 30 degrees,” said David Phillips of Environment Canada.

“That’s just about normal and only half as much as last year. I think we have a contrast this summer where it was near normal.”

Summer 2013 was cooler than last summer and came with lots of benefits.

“Such as the air quality, the air conditioning bill, the number of heat alerts was down,” Phillips said.

“Of course, the vegetation never loved it more than this particular summer, the temperature was right, the amount of precipitation was right.”

Because of those ideal conditions fall foliage looks to be a dazzler this year.

Phillips also says he expects temperatures to be above normal this fall and it looks to be dryer than normal.
