Same suspect wanted in 3 armed TTC subway robberies

The same suspect is believed to be responsible for three armed TTC subway station robberies in the past two months, Toronto police say.

“He is bold and brazen and becoming more brazen as the days go on. We want to apprehend him as quickly as possible,” Staff Insp. Mike Earl said at a news conference on Monday.

A TTC collector was robbed at gunpoint at Chester station late Sunday night, the second robbery at Chester station since Aug. 6. The employee complied and wasn’t harmed.

TTC CEO Andy Byford told CityNews he was upset about the spate of robberies.

“I’m appalled and I’m angry that this should have happened again.”

“It seems to be the same person who keeps attacking our stations and staff,” Byford said.

The suspect pointed a gun through the hole where money is collected. It took “a matter of seconds,” Earl said.

The robbery happened on Danforth Avenue east of Broadview Avenue, around 10:30 p.m.  An unspecified amount of cash was stolen.

Earl said the same suspect is wanted for robbing Chester station on Aug. 6, and in a robbery at Christie subway station just before midnight on Aug. 26.

The robberies are carefully planned, he said, and there are very few witnesses in the area.

Police said they are looking for the public’s help in identifying and arresting the suspect, and have released security camera images.
