Blue Jays fever makes ticket prices soar to absurd heights

How much are you willing to pay to see the Toronto Blue Jays play?

There is plenty of Blue Jays fever going around, especially after the team swept the New York Yankees last weekend and are arguably playing their best baseball in a really long time, all too familiar to Toronto fans.

The Jays are now just 1.5 games back in the American League East, something many have been praying to happen for years but seemed impossible.

It’s been since May 2003 that the Jays swept the Yankees in New York.

And now, things have officially gotten out of hand with the price of tickets.

Remember Toonie-Tuesdays? Well those days are long, long gone.

On StubHub, as of Monday afternoon, you can purchase a ticket for the Aug 16th game against the New York Yankees, which has been hyped up due to the bobblehead give away, for $11,701.99 each!

Bargain, right?

StubHub allows people to buy and sell their tickets while listing them at their chosen price.

The seats are in the 100s, which normally go for under $100.00.

“Any tickets listed for $11,000 is pretty ridiculous, it’s important to note that that is an asking price,” said Cameron Papp spokesperson for StubHub to 680 NEWS. “When you see a price listed for that, that is an actual seller asking for that price.”

And there are plenty more ridiculous prices.

You could get a ticket to Sunday’s game in the 500s for $5,852.00. Not only can you buy one ticket, but more than eight of them for this price.

“Blue Jays tickets are selling like crazy right now on StubHub,” said Papp. “In fact, last week was the highest selling week that we’ve had, our year-over-year sales are up around 30 per cent.”

Seriously, would anyone actual buy these?

Ticket prices started to skyrocket after David Price was traded to the Jays. His debut was the Jays’ most expensive home game of the season.

Tickets to that game were averaging around $48.00 before he was traded, as reported by the Canadian Press. But after the trade was announced, the average ticket jumped up to $89.00.
