The secret to the Raptors’ success? Nonna removed the malocchio

By News Staff

So, who gets credit for the Toronto Raptors’ two-game home sweep over the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Was it great rebounding by Bismack Biyombo? Timely baskets by DeMar DeRozan? Great defence? The rowdy, home-court fans?

Nope. It was Nonna.

On Friday afternoon, when the Raptors’ destiny seemed darkest, CityNews reporter Stella Aquisto paid a visit to her Nonna to remove the curse that appeared to be on the woeful team, just returning home after two lopsided losses at the hands of King James and the Cavaliers.

Nonna was quickly able to determine that the Raps did have a curse on them – more specifically, a malocchio. By dropping three drops of olive oil in a plate of water, Nonna saw the shape of the evil eye in the water.

According to Italian folklore, the malocchio is a curse that can cause physical pain or misfortune.

Through a series of prayers, Nonna was able to remove the malocchio … and since she did it, the Raptors haven’t lost a game.

Shots the Raptors missed in Games 1 and 2 started to fall in Games 3 and 4. Biyombo found more balls bouncing his way off the rim. And even Kyle Lowry started playing like Kyle Lowry again.

Now if Nonna can do anything about all those missed calls by the referees …
