A Toronto woman is asking why it has taken over two years to get a noticeable sidewalk heave in front of her home fixed.
Scarborough resident Angela Drew says the heave, in which two sidewalk panels have risen above the ground, measures a full nine inches above her lawn. Drew says the issue hasn’t been repaired despite numerous calls to 311 over the past two years.
She says that when she complained in the past, city workers would put orange cones around the obstruction, which kids would often move or steal. Just this morning, the city painted the affected sidewalk panels with orange paint.
Randall Meier, senior communications coordinator at the city, says the only way to repair the sidewalk is to replace the panels. He said he’s not sure whether the problem was caused by heat or tree roots based on the photo.
