Pickleball taking over some GTA tennis courts

By News Staff

Pickleball is taking over some tennis courts across the Greater Toronto Area.

The city of Mississauga has painted blue lines on two courts at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre so you’ll be able to play both sports at the site.

The town of Ajax is also getting in on the game.

It has added new red lines to a number of courts including the Audley Recreation Centre, Ajax Community Centre and Paradise Park.

So what exactly is pickleball?

According to Pickleball Canada, it’s a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The sport is played with a racket that is slightly larger than a ping pong paddle.

The ball used is called a wiffleball and is about the size of a tennis ball.

The sport has been quickly growing in popularity. Even actor George Clooney is a big fan.
