Ex-Tennessee coach Tyndall working as assistant in D-League

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Former Southern Mississippi and Tennessee coach Donnie Tyndall is working as an assistant in the NBA Development League with Raptors 905 while he appeals the show-cause penalty he received from the NCAA.

Head coach Jerry Stackhouse filled out his staff on Friday with the addition of Tyndall, video co-ordinator/player development coach John Corbacio and Nicki Gross as player development coach.

The NCAA handed Tyndall a 10-year show cause penalty in April and ruled he orchestrated academic fraud during his two-year tenure at Southern Mississippi. Tyndall filed an appeal in June and said he was seeking a “full overturning or reversal” of the penalty.

Tennessee fired Tyndall in April 2015 due to potential fallout from the NCAA investigation of Southern Mississippi.

Gross, who spent last season as an assistant with the Iowa Energy, joins the Toronto Raptors’ D-League affiliate as the only female coach in the development league.

Assistants David Gale and Nathanial Mitchell return for their second seasons with the 905.

Raptors 905 open the season Nov. 18 when they host the Greensboro Swarm at the Hershey Centre.
