Toronto neurosurgeon Mohammed Shamji, charged in the murder of his doctor wife, has been denied bail ahead of his murder trial.
The decision follows a two-day bail hearing held last week.
Shamji faces one count of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Dr. Elana Fric.
Fric was last seen the evening on Nov. 30. Her remains were found in a suitcase near the underpass of a bridge beside the West Humber River in Vaughan on Dec. 1.
Shamji, the former Toronto Western Hospital employee and University of Toronto faculty member, has been in custody since his arrest.
The couple were married for 12 years and had three children.
