Chunk of guardrail on Gardiner torn off after crash

By News staff

Crews will be working to fix the guardrail on the Gardiner Expressway after a rollover crash.

The single-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck happened in the westbound lanes near Bathurst Street around 1:15 a.m. on Monday.

Toronto police say it appears the driver was going too fast in the rain and lost control, and took out a large chunk of the guardrail and a light pole. Some of that debris fell down onto two parked vehicles below.

Two people were in the vehicle that rolled over but they were not injured.

The male driver is facing a careless driving charge.

Pieces of the guardrail are still dangling from the Gardiner so a section of Fort York Boulevard below had to be closed off.

It is unclear how long the repairs will take.

The Spadina on-ramp to the westbound Gardiner is closed for repairs until 2 p.m. Access to the westbound Lake Shore is open.
