Toronto council has voted to double its staff budgets to help cover the increased workload after Doug Ford’s government slashed the number of wards in the city.

At a meeting Wednesday, councillors agreed to increase their budgets to $482,000 a year from $241,000.

Councillors also discussed a report that lays out how council should restructure itself after being cut nearly in half, from 47 to 25 seats.

They adopted recommendations to establish a special committee that will work over the next few months to come up with final plan for governance.

They also agreed to reduce the number of appointments to boards, committees and tribunals to help ease demands on council members.
