2 dead after car crashes into tree in Markham

Two people are dead after a car crashed into a tree in Markham on Thursday evening.

Police responded to a collision in the Warden Avenue area, north of 19th Avenue.

York Regional Police tell CityNews only one vehicle was involved and the car went off the road, crashing into the tree.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.

The passenger was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died shortly after.

There is no word on what caused the crash at this time.
