Man arrested following fatal house fire in Rexdale

A 24-year-old man has been arrested following a house fire in the northwest Toronto community of Rexdale that claimed the life of one person.

Toronto fire said they were called to a two-story home on Stallion Place at around 9:25 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an active structure fire.

Flames could be seen coming from the home when fire crews pulled up to the scene, fire officials said.

A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was pulled from the building but was later pronounced dead on the scene.

According to police, the suspect made his own way to hospital, where officers placed him in custody for arson. There has been no word on if the suspect suffered any injuries.

Police say the homicide unit is monitoring and assisting them with this incident but have not been called upon to take over the investigation.

One firefighter suffered minor, heat related, injuries in the fire, two other people were also treated and released by paramedics.
