Fourteen people, including 13 teenagers, have been arrested after an investigation into bullying, thefts and assaults at a Oshawa high school.
Police say they began investigating following multiple complaints from educators and students at Maxwell Heights Secondary School.
As a result, a group of former and current students who were identifying themselves as a “street gang” were arrested and are facing a total of 38 charges.
The youths charged are all males between the ages of 12 and 17. One adult, who was the parent of one of the suspects, was also charged. The charges range from theft, assault forcible confinement and intimidation.
“They used threats of violence, they stole smart phones, jewelry and other personal possessions from the victims and also threatened them to not go to police or school officials with any information,” Constable George Tudos tells 680 NEWS.
Durham District School Board co-operated with the investigation.
