No injuries have been reported after a large fire broke out at a Canadian Tire store in Brampton.

Firefighters were called to the scene on McLaughlin Road near Bovaird Drive around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Officials said a passerby saw the flames and called 911.

Video of the fire shows flames and large clouds of black smoke rising above the building.

Officials said it appears the fire started in the outdoor garden centre. There was concern that it had spread to inside the store but officials said the quick work of firefighters stopped that from happening.

“The fire was contained primarily to the garden centre. There’s still inspection and some investigation that has to take place but it was just a minor amount of smoke that entered (the store) and some water,” Brampton Fire Services Platoon Chief Rob Rolfe explained.

Crews were able to get the fire under control and continue to extinguish hot spots.

There’s been no word on what sparked the blaze, or if it’s being considered suspicious.

A spokesperson for Canadian Tire said the store will remain closed for the rest of the day.
