Unsung Hero: Jennifer Bland

37 year old Jennifer Bland, a single mother of one is the store manager at Sobey’s Dupont and to one Toronto woman… a hero.
The Sobey’s customer was anxious about grocery shopping at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. To make matters worse, when she went to check out she realized she did not have her wallet. That’s when Bland stepped in and paid the over 140 dollar grocery bill out of her own pocket.
Bland says it’s no big deal. She could tell the woman was stressed and uncomfortable so she wanted to help her out. What’s more, this isn’t the first time Bland has bailed out someone in a bind.
The grateful customer who returned to repay Bland wrote Sobey’s an email that reads in part:
“Jennifer is an essential worker who went way beyond: kindness, service, calm, trust. She holds qualities that need to be applauded and recognized. From the bottom of my heart and my family’s, thank you Jennifer. You are a hero in my eyes!”
