A 27-year-old man is dead after he was shot in North York on Thursday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Lawrence Avenue West and Jane Street just before 10 a.m.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toronto police Insp. Paul Rinkoff said the victim was with his female companion and his newborn baby at the time of the shooting. They were on their way to the hospital when the man was shot.

The woman and child were not injured in the incident.

“This is a brazen daylight shooting, this is horrific. This is the time of day when parents are taking the children to school, when people going to work … this is not tolerated,” Rinkoff said.

Police are still investigating whether the victim was targeted.

The following schools were locked down as a precaution as police investigated but the lockdown was later moved to a hold and secure: C. R. Marchant Middle School, Weston Collegiate Institute and Weston Memorial Junior Public School.

Police said they are looking for two suspects who were spotted leaving in a four-door sedan. There has been no suspect descriptions released.
