Woman charged with manslaughter in Brampton house fire that killed 2

By News Staff

A woman has been charged with two counts of manslaughter following a lengthy investigation into a house fire in Brampton that killed two men back in 2020.

Back on May 7, Peel police received a fire call around 10:45 p.m. at a rooming house located at 5 Mill Street North, in the area of Queen Street West and Nelson Road.

Police and Brampton Fire services arrived to find the home fully engulfed. After the fire was extinguished, the bodies of two men were located in the residence.

The victims have been identified as 65-year-old Keith Powell and 59-year-old Darell Terrell, both of Brampton.

After what police call a “thorough investigation in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshall,” they charged 34-year-old Amanda Smith, of no fixed address, with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of criminal negligence causing death, and two counts of arson endangering life.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the investigation is asked to contact the homicide unit.
