By The Canadian Press

One person is dead following a house fire in Milton on Wednesday morning.

Halton Regional Police were called to a home on Steeles Avenue West at 12:30 a.m. for reports of a fire in part of a six-unit townhouse.

When officers arrived, they found the main floor of one of the units ablaze, and were told one person was thought to still be inside.

Police tried to get inside the building to find the missing occupant, but were forced back by the flames and heavy smoke.

The body of an unidentified person was later found inside the home after the Milton Fire Department extinguished the fire.

No other residents were injured, but two officers were assessed by EMS at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to determine what caused the blaze.
