A 26-year-old man is dead and a woman is in hospital following a shooting in Brampton that police believe to be a targeted incident.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to a residence on Rushbrook Drive, in the area of Airport Road and Countryside Drive, for reports of a shooting and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

A man was pronounced dead on the scene, and a woman was taken to hospital in non-life threatening condition. Police say they were known to each other, but it is unclear if they lived in the residence.

The victim has been identified as Guryodh Khattra from Brampton. Const. Heather Cannon tells CityNews he was known to police.

Police say they believe around three suspects went to the home in a grey Hyundai Tuscon and then fled the area in that same vehicle following the shooting.

Shortly after the shooting, around 5 p.m., police received another 911 call about a car fire in the area of Grenoble Boulevard and Williams Parkway.

When police arrived on scene they did not find anyone inside or near the vehicle. Investigators believe the vehicle could possibly have been involved in the shooting.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact police.
