A man faces several offences, including multiple counts of attempted murder following an incident at a Mississauga home that resulted in a woman and two children sustaining injuries.
Peel Regional Police were called to a residential neighbourhood in Southampton Drive and Eglinton Avenue West around 10 a.m. on Monday for reports of a domestic dispute.
A woman was discovered outside a residence with apparent signs of trauma. She was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, where she remains.
An 11-year-old was also transported to a trauma centre with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition. A second, younger child — since confirmed to be a two-year-old — had no physical injuries, police said.
A police-involved interaction ensued with the man, during which a responding officer discharged their firearm.
Peel police say a 47-year-old man from Mississauga was taken into custody and rushed to a trauma centre with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday, the man was charged with three counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault, among other offences.
“This incident has had a devastating impact on the survivors of yesterday’s events as well as those who witnessed the incident, community members and first responders,” Nick Milinovich, Deputy Chief of Investigative and Emergency Services, said in a news release.
He appeared virtually for a bail hearing and has been remanded into custody.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate and now oversees the case.
“Peel Regional Police is committed to working alongside our community partners and organizations to provide awareness, resources and support to survivors of Intimate Partner Violence, whether they have been identified or not,” Milinovich said.
“We can all work together to amplify helpful, available resources and accessible, safe spaces to report incidents of domestic violence.”
