A 47-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a TTC maintenance vehicle in Toronto’s west end on Tuesday morning.

Toronto police received a call shortly before 1:30 a.m. for a woman lying in the street on Lansdowne Avenue, just south of Dupont Street.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the woman with life-threatening injuries, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

In an update later in the day, police said the woman was crossing Lansdowne mid-block when she lay down in the middle of the roadway.

Police said the driver of the maintenance vehicle was travelling south on the roadway when he tried to avoid hitting what he thought was a garbage bag.

The woman noticed the oncoming vehicle and, at the last moment, tried to roll into the next lane but was struck by the TTC vehicle.

Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dash-cam video to contact them.
