Grandmother injured in Brampton fire that killed family of 5 dies

The grandmother who was injured in a Brampton fire that killed five members of the same family last week has died in hospital.

Emergency crews responded to numerous calls for an early-morning fire at a residence on Conestoga Drive, in the area of Kennedy Road and Sandalwood Parkway, on March 28.

Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others died in hospital.

The victims have been identified as Nazir Ali, 28, Raven Alisha Ali-O’dea, 29, Alia Marylin Ali-O’dea, 10, Jayden Prince Ali-O’dea, 8, and seven-year-old Layla Rose Ali-O’dea by a family friend.

The grandmother of the family was rushed to hospital in critical condition and has since died in hospital. She has been identified as Bonnie O’dea by a family member.

Two people in the basement of the house were able to escape unharmed.

Brampton Fire and the Ontario Fire Marshal are still investigating the circumstances and cause of the fire, but urged residents to make sure their smoke alarms are working.

A funeral for the family was held on Saturday at Jame Masjid in Mississauga.
