Truck and trailer without tires seen on Highway 401, driver’s licence suspended: OPP

A driver is facing a three-day, alcohol-related licence suspension after their vehicle was seen travelling along Highway 401 in Toronto without several tires, Ontario Provincial Police officers say.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CityNews several calls came into 911 Tuesday evening about a pick-up truck travelling eastbound in the express lanes near Warden Avenue.

“It’s totally destroyed,” he said.

In a post on Twitter on Wednesday, pictures appear to show the truck’s front, right wheel without a tire and just a rim. A small trailer attached to the back of the pick-up was also missing tires on the right side. The truck’s front hood and bumper also appeared to be crumpled up.

Also, in the cab and rear of the vehicle, there appeared to be a large amount of garbage and debris.

Schmidt said the truck was found at a GO station parking lot in Whitby.

He said the unidentified driver received a three-day licence suspension for having a blood alcohol level in the warning range.

Meanwhile, Schmidt said officers are looking to speak with anyone in Toronto or Durham region who may have seen the driver or the vehicle, or “information as to how it came to be in the condition it is.” Witnesses were asked to call 416-235-4981.
