Toronto Raptors sign Juancho Hernangómez, starred alongside Adam Sandler in ‘Hustle’

It’s not every day the Toronto Raptors can say they signed a movie star, but that’s what happened on Tuesday.

The Raptors agreed to a one-year contract with NBA forward Juancho Hernangómez, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Financial details were not released.

Basketball fans were quick to react and take notice as Hernangómez made his acting debut in the 2022 Netflix film Hustle, produced by LeBron James and Adam Sandler, who is also the co-star.

Hernangómez plays Bo Cruz, a fictional basketball player from Spain, who Sandler’s character recruits to help bring him to the United States and play in the NBA.

The film received critical acclaim.

After news of the signing, Sandler and Bo Cruz quickly became trending topics on Twitter. The new, on-court addition even generated a positive reaction from Raptors forward Scottie Barnes.

Sandler has recently been spotted in Toronto and the GTA as he films a new movie.

Hernangómez, 26, is a former first-round pick (15th overall) of the Denver Nuggets in 2016. He’s bounced around since entering the league, playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves and, more recently, the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz.

The soon-to-be-27-year-old played well for the Jazz this past season, albeit in limited action, averaging 6.2 points per game and hitting over 40 per cent of three-pointers across 17 games.

Juancho has an older brother, Willy, who also plays in the NBA for the New Orleans Pelicans.
