High school, Walmart in Peel Region evacuated due to apparent bomb threat

Police continue to investigate an apparent bomb threat that forced the evacuation of a Caledon high school and nearby Walmart on Wednesday.

Caledon OPP Insp. Mary Louise Kearns say they received a phone call just before noon about a possible bomb inside Mayfield Secondary School along with the Walmart supercentre located across the street.

Police conducted a search of the school and no explosives were located. Police have since cleared both the school and the Walmart.

According to Kearns, the school encompasses 250,000 square feet and houses up to 1,900 students.

Students at Mayfield were moved to nearby James Grieve Public School on Bramalea Road, where parents were allowed to pick them up.

No injuries have been reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
