Man dies in hospital after fire at west-end apartment

One man has died after a fire broke out at a high-rise apartment building in the Eglinton West area.

Fire crews were called to Blackthorn Avenue, near Eglinton and Caledonia, around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke on the 14th floor of the building and located a victim inside the unit.

CPR was performed on the victim in the lobby of the building, and they were transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition.

The victim later died from their injuries.

“[Toronto] Fire Investigations… are on-scene investigating cause, circumstances and origin of this fire. As [of] yet undetermined whether the smoke alarm in the unit was operational,” Toronto fire said.

“Our condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.”
