Man, 77, killed after wheel strikes vehicle on the QEW near Oakville

Ontario Provincial Police say a tire detatched from a vehicle driving westbound on the QEW when it hit three vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. One man was pronounced dead.

A 77-year-old man has been killed after a tire from one vehicle struck another car on the Queen Elizabeth Way.

Provincial police say a vehicle was traveling on the eastbound QEW near Winston Churchill Boulevard when the car was struck by the tire that had come off a westbound vehicle.

The male driver of the vehicle from Oakville was pronounced dead on the scene.

The wheel struck two other vehicles, but no other injuries reported. Investigators have located the vehicle that the wheel came off of and say it was from a boat trailer traveling in the westbound lanes.

The eastbound lanes were closed from Trafalgar Road to Ford Drive for close to four hours, but have since reopened.
