A high school teacher is facing charges related to a sexual assault at a Scarborough high school almost a decade ago.
Toronto police say between 2014 and 2016, Tin-Gee Wong was employed as a teacher at Albert Campbell Collegiate Institute on Sandhurst Circle in Scarborough.
During that time, police allege he engaged in a sexual relationship with a student “who was a young person at the time.”
The 38-year-old has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation. Authorities say Wong is currently employed as a teacher at Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute in Scarborough.
In a letter issued to parents and guardians, school principal Karen Hume said the charges do not involve any students from Birchmount Park C.I.
“Upon learning of the allegations, the employee was immediately placed on home assignment. School administration will continue to cooperate with police in their investigation,” Hume wrote in the letter obtained by CityNews.
Hume said additional supports would be in place for students and that TDSB staff would be present to assist.
“Our practice in a situation like this is to share as much information as we can with you. However, please do keep in mind that, because this is a police matter, there is much that we cannot share or do not know,” Hume said.
“Please contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns or if support is needed for your child.”
