Police notified after Oakville schools receive ‘hate-filled’ threats

The Halton District School Board (HDSB) says police have been notified after anonymous, hate-filled threats were made against several schools in Oakville ahead of classes on Friday.

Concerned parents called the CityNews 680 newsroom alleging threats were made and that some were considering keeping their children home for the day.

An HDSB spokesperson later confirmed that hate-filled messages were made “that indicate threats will be received [Friday].”

“This message was immediately shared with the police,” the spokesperson said.

“As you may be aware, some Oakville schools have received threats over the past few weeks and months. The Halton District School Board informed families and staff at Oakville schools today of this message out of an abundance of caution. The message received does not identify specific schools.”

The HDSB says safety procedures are in place at all schools, and parents will be informed of any developments.

“While all threats are treated seriously, we believe these threats lack credibility and are more rooted in hateful mischief than high-level risk,” the representative added.

Halton police did not respond to requests for comment.
