Peel Regional Police officers say a youth is in custody after several threats were directed at a Brampton high school.

In a message posted on Twitter Monday morning, they said the threats on “various platforms” were aimed at St. Augustine Catholic Secondary School.

Police said the unidentified young person was arrested in the early morning hours on Monday before classes started at the high school.

The youth was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. Police also seized two assault rifle-style airsoft guns, magazines, and an airsoft handgun in relation to the threat.

The individual was not identified through the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). No injuries were reported, and there is no threat to public safety.

Last week, Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) investigators said a series of threats sent to schools in the region appear to be “connected,” adding that the threats sent by email usually indicate the presence of a bomb or other threats of violence.

“While none of the threats to date have proved to be credible, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) investigates each and everyone and initiates bomb threat protocols when necessary,” HRPS officers said in a release.

“Investigators believe all these threats to be connected, and our officers are working tirelessly with our community partners and other agencies to bring these investigations to a successful conclusion.”

Investigators acknowledged the threats are “extremely stressful for the community and those specifically targeted.”
