Inside the rise and fall of plant-based meat
Plant-based meat products were supposed to replace chicken and beef, save the environment and make us healthier. Billions of dollars poured into the industry based on that initial hype, but three years later, it’s yet to deliver on any of those promises.
Deena Shanker is the food industry reporter at Bloomberg. She joins us to discuss her reporting on the meat-alternatives industry, and why their business model may have been predicated on some shaky assumptions.
“I think there was this tremendous opportunity to change consumer behaviour [during the pandemic],and that opportunity passed, and I don’t know when the next one like that is going to come,” she said.
