York Regional Police are investigating a break-and-enter after a car smashed through Vaughan Mills and was driven through the empty mall before two perpetrators committed a robbery.
Police tell CityNews two thieves used the vehicle to get into Vaughan Mills and rob a store around 1:10 a.m. Wednesday.
York Regional Police Sgt. Clint Whitney says the suspects drove through the glass doors of the shopping centre near Rutherford Road and Highway 400. The thieves then crashed into an electronic store before driving through another set of glass doors to escape.
“They proceeded to take a quantity of electronic devices,” Sgt. Whitney said. “The suspects got back into their vehicle and drove through the mall again but, this time, broke through another glass door on the other side of the mall and escaped.”
No injuries were reported, though Sgt. Whitney described it as “an audacious and remarkable crime.”
Police say a black 2011 Audi A4 with the Québec licence plate X10 SNP, which investigators say was stolen, was recovered late Wednesday afternoon. No further details were provided.
“One store was hit… I believe they’re looking into the overall value of what was taken.”
