Man seriously injured in York University stabbing

A man has suffered serious injuries after being stabbed on the grounds of York University.

Police say they were called to York Lanes Mall, an indoor mall located on the York University Keele Campus at 4700 Keele Street, around 7 p.m. for reports a large group of people were fighting.

When they arrived they found one man suffering from stab wounds. He was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

Police say the suspects fled the scene and have not provided a description at this time.

An email alert sent by the university to students said the altercation involved a student and “several non-community members” known to each other.

“The suspects brandished a knife and injured a non-community member bystander who has been taken to hospital,” reads the alert. “Toronto Police Service are investigating and have indicated that the incident was not random and that there is no immediate threat to the community.”
