A Canada-wide arrest warrant is in place as police search for a man connected to a string of shootings in Vaughan, where one man was killed last month.

York Regional Police were called to the Dufferin Street and Summeridge Drive area just before 4 a.m. on March 9 for reports of gunfire.

Officers found a male victim with gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a local trauma centre but was pronounced dead a short time later.

On Monday, police said investigators determined that two other shooting victims, a man and a woman located in Toronto, were connected to the Vaughan homicide on March 9.

A 20-year-old man with serious injuries, and a 21-year-old woman with minor injuries, were transported to a local hospital. The woman was treated and released, and police said the male victim remains in serious condition.

York Regional Police said both victims were in Vaughan at the time of the shooting before fleeing in a vehicle that was recovered during the investigation.

The homicide victim was later identified as 24-year-old Alexander Mills-Smith of Toronto.

Police said a Canada-wide warrant was issued for the arrest of 20-year-old Illia Ayo of no fixed address.

Ayo is known to have associations in London, Ont. and Calgary, Alta. The 20-year-old is wanted for first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Ayo is considered armed and dangerous. His photo has been released.
