Funnel cloud threat no more as weather advisory dropped

By Andrew Osmond

Environment Canada had issued a weather advisory for the City of Toronto, the GTA and Hamilton Wednesday around 11:30 in the morning. It has since since been dropped.

There was potential for an active afternoon and evening with the possible development of funnel clouds.

“We’re not expecting a severe thunderstorm outbreak or tornadic activity necessarily,” CityNews 680’s weather specialist Denise Andreacchi said earlier Wednesday.

Taking shelter is strongly advised should a funnel cloud develop without warning.

The city of Toronto has already seen large amounts of rainfall this week. It led to flooding and watershed concern.

The Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) issued a flood warning Monday following record rainfall. The warning has since been downgraded, however water levels remain high throughout the city.

Pearson Airport saw 31 mm of rainfall on Monday, breaking the previous daily record for June 12 that was set in 1954.
