Border officers at Pearson seize over 3.3 tonnes of chemicals used to make ecstasy, other drugs

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says its officers seized more than 3.3 tonnes of chemicals used to make ecstasy and other drugs at Pearson International Airport.

Border officials say Pearson’s Commercial Operations District intercepted PMK ethyl glycidate and 1,4-butanediol between June and July of this year.

The chemicals were found in several separate shipments arriving from Asia.

“The interception of these chemicals has prevented millions of doses of MDMA and other drugs from reaching Canadian communities,” the CBSA states in a release.

Ecstasy (MDMA) is part of a group of psychoactive drugs that act on the central nervous system, causing changes in mood, awareness, and behavior.

There is no word if any charges have been laid.
