A young girl is dead after she was struck while playing outside on a street in Vaughan.

Police say the collision occurred on Mullen Drive, in the area of Clark Avenue and Bathurst Street, just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say the girl was outside on the residential street when she was struck by a white Ford delivery van. She was rushed to hospital without vital signs where she was pronounced dead.

The 22-year-old male driver of the delivery truck remained at the scene for the investigation. Photos from the scene show the delivery van on a residential street surrounded by police tape.

There is no word if any charges will be laid.

The York Regional Police Major Collision Unit has taken over the investigation. Police are asking any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam or surveillance footage of the area, to contact investigators.

Premier Doug Ford offered his condolences in a post on X, saying “as a parent, there are no words to express my sadness and condolences for the family and friends of the girl. You are all in my prayers.”
