Durham police’s homicide unit is investigating after a 94-year-old woman at a long-term care home in Whitby died following an “incident” involving another resident.
Police were contacted by the coroner’s office on Jan. 17 after the woman died in hospital.
Investigators say the woman was involved in an incident with another elderly resident at a long-term care home on Glen Hill Drive, near Dundas Street East and Thickson Road South.
“The incident caused the victim to fall to the ground. She was transported to hospital where she has since succumbed to her injuries,” police said in a release.
It is not yet known what led to the incident, and police haven’t elaborated on the injuries that led to her death.
Police say they are consulting with the Crown Attorney’s office to determine if charges will be laid.
Investigators haven’t released the age of the other elderly resident.
