Chihuahua found covered in human waste in public washroom at Guelph Lake

A heart-wrenching story about a six-year-old Chihuahua, found abandoned in a public washroom holding tank at Guelph Lake Conservation Area.

The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) says the dog is resting comfortably now, but she was found starved and covered in human urine and feces.

“Cleo,” named by the team at the humane society, was found around 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

Officials said it isn’t clear how long she was in the bathroom tank or who left her there.

“It is very disturbing that a dog could be abandoned in such alarming and dire circumstances … All of us here at GHS, and we expect the entire community, are extremely distressed as to what may have happened to her had she not been discovered and rescued,” said GHS Executive Director Lisa Veit.

Veit added that pet abandonment is all too common and stresses that anyone who is struggling to take care of their pets should contact the humane society.
