An equipment failure that resulted in a chemical leak at Sunnybrook Hospital that forced some procedures to be delayed has been resolved, but some procedures have been delayed as a result.
Toronto Fire crews were first called to the scene on Sunday when a chemical leak was reported in the basement of the hospital.
Fire crews made sure monitoring was in place and determined there was no emergency. They told staff if there were concerns of rising levels to call them back.
Toronto Fire was called back again Monday as the monitors were reading a rising level of chemicals. An evacuation was ordered in one area of the hospital’s basement, but no patients were moved or evacuated.
Four staff members were assessed in the emergency room as a precaution but showed no symptoms. Fire crews isolated the area.
A spokesperson with Sunnybrook Hospital said on Tuesday that the issue has now been resolved, and patient care is continuing as normal.
“All surgeries are moving forward today, with the exception of a few select procedures which may be delayed,” said Joshua Terry.
“Patients who are affected will be contacted directly by their clinic to reschedule. Outpatient visitors may experience delays, and we appreciate the patience of all visitors.”
